Senior Engineer of Product Quality and ReliabilityDepartment: Manufacturing Employment Type: Full TimeLocation: San Jose, CACompensation: $100,000 - $140,000 / yearDescriptionCEPTON (Nasdaq: CPTN), a leading intelligent lidar solution provider, is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Engineer of Product Quality and Reliability to ensure that our LiDAR products meet and exceed reliability and quality standards. This individual will be responsible for defining, developing, and executing comprehensive reliability test plans, performing failure mode analysis, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. Additionally, they will work closely with the team to cover product quality and validation responsibilities, including defining product qualification criteria, performing analysis, and generating procedures.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with optical product qualification and reliability testing, as well as proficiency in automating reliability test data collection using Python.

  • Develop and execute reliability test plans for LiDAR products across different stages of the product development lifecycle, from sub-assembly level to full product testing.
  • Work with electrical engineers (EE), mechanical engineers (ME), and process engineers to analyze failure modes and identify risks in the optical, electrical, and mechanical systems of LiDAR products. Drive continuous improvement initiatives and perform failure analysis to determine root causes.
  • Set up and automate reliability tests to ensure efficient execution of product robustness tests under various environmental conditions, including thermal, humidity, vibration, and shock.
  • Monitor and analyze test data to ensure that product reliability meets expected specifications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align reliability testing with business and customer needs.
  • Document and maintain detailed records of all testing, failure analysis, and improvement activities.
  • Work with the Product Validation team to define product qualification criteria for LiDAR systems to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.
  • Execute qualification tests on first articles, perform data analysis to identify trends and potential quality issues.
  • Generate corresponding test procedures and provide training to technicians to ensure consistent and accurate execution of product validation tests.
    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
    • 3+ years of experience in optical product reliability engineering, quality assurance, or validation roles.
    • Proven experience in developing and executing reliability test plans, failure mode analysis, and risk assessment.
    • Experience with reliability testing methodologies such as HALT (Highly Accelerated Life Testing) and HASS (Highly Accelerated Stress Screening).
    • Hands-on experience with reliability testing equipment, including environmental chambers, thermal shock chambers, and shakers.
    • Proficiency in Python for automating test data collection processes.
    • Experience in defining product qualification criteria, executing tests, analyzing results, and developing test procedures and templates.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions.
    • Excellent communication skills for working with cross-functional teams.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
    • Experience with quality and reliability testing of LiDAR systems or other optical products using laser and detector technologies is preferred.

          Cepton is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices.The pay range for this role is $100,000-$140,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
